Chairman - Smilte Krutkyte

Function description

The main task of the chairman is to lead the board and make sure that tasks are performed well. They are the ones who prepare the agenda to highlight what must be discussed during a board meeting. All General Members Meetings, which are organised four times a year, are led by them. In addition, they have contact with other chairs during the SAM meetings, discuss both BSc and MSc Vierhoek meetings *alongside the Commissioner of Educational Affairs* and have contact with the U-raad parties. It is also important that the chairman knows the workings of the association and the wishes of the members, so attending activities and coffee hours is certainly an important task as well.

About Smilte:

Hi all! My name is Smilte and I’m from Kaunas, Lithuania. Currently I am in the third year of my bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering here at Groningen. In my free time, I enjoy cooking, catching up with friends over a cup of coffee in the city center, and watching (more like talking over) a good movie. I am so excited to be part of board 40 of G.T.D. Bernoulli and hope I can help make this year one to remember for you all! I’m always just a message away if you want to ask about something specific or simply learn more about the association. See you soon!

Secretary / Commissioner of Education Affairs - Irina Obeada

Secretary function description

The secretary is like the mechanic of the association; they keep the association running as smoothly as possible. Sometimes they need to do organizational maintenance, and sometimes they need to build a new system to make their other board members’ jobs a bit easier. They are the first point of contact for new people who join the association, so they get acquainted with many people. They also get a chance to express their creative writing through the monthly members mailing or through the wacky emails they write to the other brother or sister associations.

Being a secretary means learning a lot about working systemically and figuring out the best and most efficient way to do certain tasks!

Commissioner of Educational Affairs Function description

The Commissioner of Educational Affairs plays an important role in managing all aspects related to education within the department. They act as the primary link between students and professors, serving as a point of contact and ensuring that communication flows smoothly. They take an active role on the education committee and represent students' interests in BSc and MSc Vierhoek meetings where decisions that impact the curriculum and academic experience for students are being discussed. In addition to this, the Commissioner maintains close relationships with the programme directors and professors of the Chemical Engineering department, collaborating to address any issues or opportunities for improvement. They might be part of or keep in contact with the student representatives of the programme committee.

About Irina:

Hey everyone! I'm Irina, 21, and from Brașov, Romania. I'm in my final year of chemical engineering (fingers crossed everything goes smoothly). On top of that, I’m wrapping the Honours Programme with a project on rubber recycling. When I'm not trying to squeeze all that into 24 hours, I love running, cooking, and fueling my day with way too much coffee. Oh, and hanging out with friends, of course. Luckily, a bunch of them decided to join me in doing a board year, so we get to spend a lot of time together. I’m really excited about this whole experience and can't wait to see you all at the events we'll be hosting. Feel free to reach out if you want to chat about anything association-/education-related or just grab some coffee!

Treasurer - Laura Kacmarova

Function description

The main task of the treasurer is keeping an eye on the budget and making sure that money is being spent responsibly. This means paying incoming bills as well as sending bills to the companies cooperating with G.T.D. Bernoulli. In addition to this, they are responsible for collecting fees from members for activities and consumptions.

One of the most important things to do is bookkeeping. This ensures that during the year they have a clear overview of both the income and expenses. By keeping track of this, it is easier to steer the flow of money in the right direction. This all happens in accordance with the budget approved at the General Members Meetings. Additionally, there is an Audit committee that checks in on the income and expenditure of the association every month.

About Laura:

Hi! My name is Laura, I'm 21, and I'm from Bratislava, Slovakia. I am currently in the 3rd year of Bachelor's in Chemical Engineering, and I hope to finish the year without complications. Outside of uni and board responsibilities, I'm also working part-time in a clothing store. As the treasurer, I am, naturally, a very organized person. In my free time, I love doing some weight lifting in the gym, cooking delicious meals, traveling, or working on small sewing projects. I'm super excited to be a part of Board 40 with the most amazing people. I hope to see you having fun at our events, and feel free to contact me anytime!

Business Relations / Vice-Chairman - Paula Herrera Sanchez

Function description

The board member responsible for Business Relations represents the association to external parties like companies. Their main responsibility is ensuring that the association earns enough money to keep running. This is done by maintaining partnerships with companies and looking for new sponsorship opportunities. Additionally, they are in charge of organizing career activities such as excursions, lunch/borrel lectures, and case studies.

During a year of Business Relations duties they learn a bit more about how the corporate life works and create a network within the chemical industry, which helps them after graduating!

About Paula:

Hey there! I'm Paula, and I’m excited to take on the role of Business Relations this year. I’m 22 years old and from the best city of Spain, Madrid. Alongside pursuing my MSc, I’ve joined the 40th Board of Bernoulli to make the most of this experience. In my free time, you can usually find me cooking or somewhere running around work. I’m really looking forward to all the exciting things we have planned and hope to see you all at our upcoming events. Whether it’s for a coffee chat or grabbing a beer, I’m always up for connecting. Let’s make this year fun!
